How does a front occur?

Develop when two unlike air masses “meet”

Do not readily mix

Temperature is very different

 Cold Fronts

Marks the leading edge of cold air

Air behind the cold front is colder &drier

Cold Fronts

 Rapid lifting of warmer air ahead of the cold front.

Thunderstorms & heavy rain are often along and immediately behind cold fronts.

Warm Fronts

 Leading edge of warm air

Warm air is replacing retreating cold air

Air behind the warm front is warmer & more humid
